Program Objective
To introduce children to foundational fashion skills through creative design, beginner garment-making, fabric exploration, and visual thinking, while developing confidence, discipline, coordination, and an early understanding of how ideas become wearable pieces. Faith is integrated through creativity, obedience, excellence, and stewardship.
Curriculum
Stage 1: Foundation
Objective Rudimentary Principles
- Safe use of basic tools such as scissors, pins, hand needles, rulers, and measuring tape
- Fine motor readiness through threading, fabric handling, and simple hand control drills
- Introduction to basic hand stitching such as running stitch and backstitch
Conceptual Knowledge
- What fashion is and why clothing is designed for different purposes
- Basic garment parts such as neckline, sleeve, waist, hem, and pocket
- Colour awareness through primary, secondary, warm, and cool colours
Applied Theories
- Joining simple fabric pieces and practising straight stitching
- Creating flat beginner projects such as mini pouches, scarves, wraps, or fabric squares
- Matching colours and fabrics to simple project ideas
Stage 2: Formation
Objective Rudimentary Principles
- Beginner machine awareness and supervised straight-line stitching
- Simple measuring and fabric marking
- Basic seam allowance, pinning, clipping, and turning skills
- Introductory decorative skills such as trim attachment and simple appliqué
Conceptual Knowledge
- Design thinking through simple questions: what is being made, who it is for, and what it is used for
- Garment function, comfort, and movement
- Beginning fashion illustration through simple outfit sketches
- Process thinking through planning, sequencing, and neatness checks
Applied Theories
- Creating simple wearable items such as elastic-waist skirts or trousers, aprons, soft tops, or accessories
- Sketching before making and choosing trims or colours intentionally
- Completing coordinated mini sets such as an apron with a pocket or a matching accessory-and-garment project
Stage 3: Mastery
Objective Rudimentary Principles
- Stronger sewing control through straighter seams, better curve handling, and neater edges
- Simple use of ready-made pattern pieces and tracing
- Basic waistband, casing, pocket, and fastening awareness
Conceptual Knowledge
- Expanded design thinking around occasion, weather, and activity
- Introduction to simple style language such as playful, structured, casual, or dressy
- Beginning awareness of drape, stiffness, texture, and how fabric affects form
Applied Theories
- Producing more refined garments such as skirts, trousers, t-shirts, or simple dresses
- Designing a simple outfit around a theme
- Following a fuller making process from planning to presentation
Stage 4: Purpose & Application
Objective Rudimentary Principles
- Completion discipline, neat finishing, and preparation for display
- Simple presentation readiness through folding, hanging, or speaking briefly about the work
Conceptual Knowledge
- Clothing with purpose for a person, event, or need
- Reflection on what was learned, what improved, and how creativity can serve others
Applied Theories
- Completing a final personal outfit piece or coordinated mini look
- Presenting work in a class or parent showcase
- Participating in an optional group display or themed presentation
